What’s the Difference Between a Mini Facelift and a Traditional Facelift?

Mini Facelift connecticutIf you’re a Houston resident who is showing signs of aging on your face, including sagging skin and lost volume, you may be looking for a way to turn back the hands of time. And in your search for that proverbial fountain of youth, you may have started researching facelifts, and wondered if that plastic surgery procedure is right for you. And as you’ve been researching facelifts, you may have also come across the term mini facelift. What’s the difference between the two? Which procedure is right for you?

Houston mini facelift and traditional facelift plastic surgeons Dr. Fusi & Dr. Craig have performed both procedures on Houston patients countless times. They have created this blog post to help better explain the difference between a mini facelift and a traditional facelift.

What Is A Mini Facelift?

A mini facelift is a plastic surgery procedure that is shorter, less invasive and takes less recovery time than a traditional facelift. A mini facelift is perfect for Houston patients who are just beginning to show the signs of aging on their face and have slight jowling, sagging of facial skin and the neck and minimal wrinkles. During a mini facelift procedure, Houston plastic surgeons Dr. Fusi & Dr. Craig will use surgical techniques to eliminate excess fat on the face and tighten up the skin on the lower face and the neck. The incisions made during a mini facelift can be shorter than those made for a traditional facelift, and they are typically hidden behind your ear or in your hairline. While a mini facelift includes using fewer surgical techniques than a traditional facelift, it can rejuvenate a tired look and make you appear much younger than you actually are. And while results from a mini facelift are not permanent, getting a mini facelift at a younger age can postpone your need for a traditional facelift for many years.

What Is A Facelift?

A traditional facelift is a more involved cosmetic surgery procedure to rejuvenate the face. While there is no one-size-fits-all formula for a Houston facelift, this procedure typically includes rejuvenating the lower third of the face and neck by lifting the skin, restoring lost volume with facial filler injections or fat transfer and removing sagging skin from around the face and neck. A traditional facelift can use longer incisions than a mini facelift, but even still, Dr. Fusi & Dr. Craig use their creative expertise to artfully hide incisions in folds, creases or the hairline.

Am I A Candidate For Facial Rejuvenation?

Most healthy Houston residents are excellent candidates for either a mini facelift or a traditional facelift if they meet the following criteria:

  • They are in good medical and psychological health;
  • They are a non-smoker, or promise to quit smoking the two weeks before and after their procedure to allow the surgery and the recovery time to run more smoothly; and
  • They have realistic expectations.
