What Position Should I Sleep in After a Mommy Makeover?

Mommy Makeover ConnecticutIf you’re planning on getting a Mommy Makeover in Houston, you may be a little unsure about the recovery process. A Mommy Makeover typically includes both a breast augmentation and a tummy tuck (and perhaps a few additional procedures such as a facelift or liposuction of your problem areas like your flanks and thighs). Recovering from any surgery can be a trying time, but how are you supposed to recover, and sleep comfortably, after getting multiple surgeries at once? Trust us; it is possible to sleep comfortably and safely following a Mommy Makeover. Read on as Houston Mommy Makeover plastic surgeons Dr. Fusi & Dr. Craig explain the recommended sleeping positions following a Mommy Makeover, as well as other post-op recovery tips.

Sleep in a Recliner

Many Houston women who have had Mommy Makeovers have found that the most comfortable position to sleep in isn’t in bed at all. It’s in a recliner! Sleeping in a recliner is a good option because it helps keep your breasts elevated, your hips flexed, and it’s easier to get in and out of than if you are lying in bed. If you have a recliner or the ability to rent one for your Houston Mommy Makeover recovery time period, you may want to consider sleeping in one in the days following your surgeries.

Sleep in Bed On Your Back with Plenty of Pillows

If sleeping in a recliner isn’t an option for you, off to bed it is. The first position that you’ll be able to sleep in is on your back, as long as you are well supported with pillows. Keep in mind that following your Houston Mommy Makeover, your abdominal area will be tight, and you will not be able to lay completely flat. Use pillows to elevate your legs, especially under your knees, to keep your hips in a more comfortable, flexed position. And to reduce swelling in your breasts, use pillows under your back to keep it elevated.

Sleep in Bed in the Fetal Position

If you’re not a back sleeper, your final sleeping option is to sleep on your side in the fetal position. This position is especially helpful to alleviate any back pain that you may be feeling after your Mommy Makeover surgery. If you choose to sleep in the fetal position, make sure that you hug lots of pillows or a full body pillow for added comfort.

Never Sleep On Your Stomach Following a Mommy Makeover

You should never sleep on your stomach after a Mommy Makeover. Doing so will put too much pressure on your incisions and on your new breast implants, causing pain and swelling.

What Else Can I Do to Make Myself More Comfortable After a Mommy Makeover?

There are many other things that you can do to stay comfortable following a Mommy Makeover, including:

  • Following your doctor’s orders to a “T”;
  • Avoiding strenuous activity, even lifting your young children;
  • Taking your pain and anti-inflammation medication as prescribed, even if that means waking up in the middle of the night to take a scheduled dose; and
  • Walking during the day to increase blood flow and circulation, thus speeding up your recovery.
