10 Tips to Help You Recover from Your Mommy Makeover

mommy makeover houstonGetting a mommy makeover can be an exciting time in a Houston mother’s life. It’s a chance to get a tummy tuck, breast augmentation and/or breast lift, and perhaps even some liposuction, too! It’s also a chance to finally, FINALLY regain your pre-pregnancy body! But, as much as you may be anticipating the results of your mommy makeover, it’s important to think about your recovery time from these combined plastic surgery procedures. Here are 10 tips to help you better recover from your mommy makeover.

1.)  You Must Have Someone Drive You Home on the Day of Your Surgeries

Because you’ll be receiving general anesthesia to “knock you out” on the day of your mommy makeover, you won’t be able to drive yourself home after your procedures. That’s because the drugs that are used to put you to sleep are that strong. So make sure you have a family member or friend lined up to take you home.

2.)  You’ll Need to Find Time to Rest

We know the idea of “mommy” getting rest with everything going on in the home on a daily basis may seem impossible. But it’s imperative that you get rest to recover from your multiple plastic surgery procedures after your Houston mommy makeover.

3.)  Get Help from Family and Friends – or Hire Help

We can’t stress enough just how much you’ll need to rest after getting a tummy tuck, breast procedure and perhaps even liposuction. You won’t be able to lift your children, and you won’t be able to cook or clean. Get help from of friends, family or a housecleaner or childcare provider.

4.)  No Heavy Lifting for 1 to 2 Weeks

We know that moms do it all. But, you’ll have to take a step back for the first week or two following your mommy makeover. This means you won’t be able to lift anything heavy, such as your children, Amazon packages, etc. for 1 to 2 weeks after your surgeries.

5.)  Never Miss a Dose of Your Pain Medication

When you get a mommy makeover by Houston plastic surgeons Dr. Fusi & Dr. Craig, they’re going to make sure you’re well taken care of in terms of pain management. But, you’ll be unable to properly manage your pain if you don’t take your pain medication exactly as prescribed. This means you’ll have to wake up in the middle of the night so that you won’t miss a dose. Don’t worry, we promise setting the alarm for the wee hours of the morning will be well worth it when you are feeling comfortable throughout the day.

6.)  Always Wear Your Compression Garments

When you get a mommy makeover, you’re typically placed in compression garments to help reduce pain, swelling and promote healing. Even though they might not be the most attractive items you’ve ever worn, you’ll want to wear them so that you can be well on your way to getting better, faster.

7.)  Find an Appropriate Position in Which to Sleep

Many Houston women who get a mommy makeover express concern to Dr. Fusi & Dr. Craig about what position they’ll be able to sleep. After all, you can’t sleep on your stomach after a mommy makeover. Instead, you can sleep on your back with your back and hips/knees propped up with pillows, or you can sleep on your side or in a recliner.

8.)  Practice Your Breast Massages

As soon as Houston plastic surgeons Dr. Fusi & Dr. Craig clear you to do so, you’ll want to practice breast massages to promote healthy healing and settling of your breast implants. This means pushing your breasts up, down, in and out several times a day.

9.)  Refrain from Smoking

Smoking is an unhealthy habit, especially when you’re recovering from surgery. Because smoking constricts your blood flow, it can make it harder for your body to heal. If you smoke, quit now, and thank yourself later.

10.) Call Dr. Fusi & Dr. Craig at the First Sign of an Infection or Complication

If you develop a fever or show other signs of an infection or surgical complication, you’ll need to call our Houston offices right away. Dr. Fusi & Dr. Craig’s primary concern is your health and safety, and they’ll want to see you immediately if you may have an infection or other surgical complication
